A piece of Broads history will be open to the public in Beccles as visitors are invited to step aboard the historic wherry Maud.
The event will take place at Hippersons Boatyard on Gillingham Dam, where volunteers who help maintain the vessel will be on hand to speak with visitors and share their knowledge.
As well as the chance to see Maud up close, there will be a display of photographs and a video showing the wherry under sail. The exhibition highlights the boat’s history, restoration work and the ongoing effort to preserve it.
Organisers say the open day is aimed at both those already familiar with Maud and people discovering it for the first time. They hope it will give locals and visitors a better understanding of its importance to the Broads.
The event runs from 11am to 5pm, with parking available on site.
The wherry Maud is considered a significant part of the area’s heritage, and events like this offer a rare opportunity to learn more about its story and upkeep.
