A woman from Lowestoft has become the first ever vessel godmother for ScottishPower Renewables after officially christening a new offshore wind installation ship linked to the East Anglia TWO project.
Lisa Western, who works for ScottishPower Renewables, carried out the traditional naming ceremony for the vessel Wind Ace, operated by Cadeler.
The role of a vessel godmother is a long-standing maritime tradition believed to bring good luck and safety to the ship and crew. As part of the ceremony, Lisa officially named the vessel and carried out the traditional champagne bottle christening at the bow.
The new jack-up installation vessel will support offshore construction work for the East Anglia TWO windfarm, which will be located in the southern North Sea off the Suffolk coast near Southwold and Lowestoft.
Lisa, who is originally from Lowestoft, said it was an unexpected honour and described the experience as a proud moment linked to the town’s maritime heritage.
The Wind Ace is expected to begin operating later this year, with offshore construction work for East Anglia TWO due to start in 2027.
The windfarm is planned to generate enough electricity to power around 950,000 homes.
