Pakefield Church has launched a fundraising appeal to help pay for urgent repairs needed to two fire exit doors.
Church leaders say the work is required after advice from a County Council fire safety officer, who warned that without repairs the building would be limited to just 60 people at a time.
The restriction would affect larger weddings, funerals, church services and fundraising events regularly held at the church.
The appeal focuses on repairs to the Priest’s Door and the South Porch Door, both of which are used as fire exits.
The church says its repair funds have already been heavily reduced following emergency work last year, when plaster fell from an internal wall and had to be made safe. Around £8,000 was spent from existing reserves to carry out that work.
Organisers are now asking the local community for donations so the church can continue hosting larger events and remain a central part of community life in Pakefield.
