A major new seafront development in Lowestoft has officially opened, bringing new facilities, businesses and improved accessibility to the town's waterfront.
Jubilee Parade, located next to the Eastern Edge beach huts, features a two-storey restaurant and café complex, concession units, public toilets and a Changing Places facility for people with accessibility needs.
A new lift has also been installed to improve access between the Upper Esplanade and the Lower Promenade. It provides access to the restaurant space and the first-floor Eastern Edge beach huts.
The project was led by East Suffolk Council, constructed by PJ Spillings and designed by architects Chaplin Farrant. Funding included £4.3 million from the Government's Levelling Up Fund, alongside £1.9 million from East Suffolk Council.
The development was officially opened by East Suffolk Council leader Councillor Caroline Topping.
Businesses already operating from the site include Peak Open Water Sports and Nuglow UK, which opened ahead of the First Light Festival. Peak Open Water Sports is due to begin trading shortly. Sunrise at Marty Boys, formerly Sunrise at Zak's, has also relocated into the new complex.
Discussions are continuing with potential operators for the first-floor restaurant, which offers uninterrupted sea views.
As part of the wider project, contractor PJ Spillings provided sponsored places on the Waveney Surf Life Saving Club's graduate lifeguard programme, supported apprentices from East Coast College and offered work experience opportunities for local students.
The new development is expected to play a key role in attracting visitors and improving facilities along Lowestoft's seafront.
