A new independent chair has been appointed to help decide how millions of pounds of investment will be spent in Lowestoft.
Mel McGee has been chosen to lead the town’s Pride in Place programme, which will see £20 million invested over the next decade. The scheme will bring £2 million a year into Lowestoft as part of a wider government initiative supporting communities across the country.
After grwoing up in the town and worked in local businesses before building a career in advertising, Mel McGee said the programme is an opportunity to bring fresh thinking to the area.
She said the funding, combined with long-term planning and local input, could help build on existing regeneration work and support the town’s future.
The next step is to recruit local people to join a Neighbourhood Board, which will play a key role in shaping how the funding is used.
Lowestoft MP Jess Asato said the programme represents a major opportunity for the town, but added it would only succeed if driven by local ideas and ambition.
Residents with a connection to central Lowestoft are being encouraged to apply, with organisers welcoming written, video or audio submissions.
