Man Banned Following Drink Drive Collision In Carlton Colville

A 26-year-old man has been banned from driving for nearly two years after being caught driving whilst almost twice over the drink-drive limit following a road traffic collision in Carlton Colville last year. Police were called shortly before 11:50pm on Tuesday 10th August 2021 following reports of a single vehicle collision in Wharfedale, where a silver BMW left the road and subsequently collided with a property. The driver initially fled the scene but was located by officers in a nearby street where he failed the initial roadside breath test. He was then taken to James Paget Hospital, having sustained serious injuries. Police later obtained a blood sample for analysis which concluded a result of 159milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood – the legal limit being 80 milligrams. Kurtis Galyer, of Sheraton Drive, Grimsby, was subsequently charged on Monday 17th January 2022 with driving a motor vehicle when above the prescribed alcohol limit. He appeared before Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 9th February 2022, where he pleaded guilty to the offence. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months (which could be reduced to 20 weeks on completion of a drink drive rehabilitation course, which he would have to pay for himself). He was also fined £150 and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £105 in costs.
