Lowestoft’s weekly parkrun has been ranked among the busiest events in the world after attracting a record 925 participants.
The latest figures show that out of more than 2,200 parkruns held globally, the Lowestoft event placed ninth for attendance, highlighting the growing popularity of the free community run.
Organisers say they are “exceptionally proud” of the achievement on Saturday 4th April, which reflects strong local support and enthusiasm for the event. However, they have also acknowledged that the high turnout led to some challenges on the day.
With such large numbers of walkers, runners and joggers, volunteers found it more difficult than usual to move people efficiently across the finish line, leading to delays for some participants.
Despite this, organisers emphasised that parkrun is not about numbers, but about community participation, inclusivity, and encouraging people of all abilities to take part.
The record-breaking turnout demonstrates how important the event has become to the town, bringing together hundreds of people each week for exercise and social connection.
Lowestoft’s performance puts it alongside some of the largest parkruns in major cities worldwide — a notable achievement for a Suffolk's second largest town.
Organisers say they will continue working to manage the growing popularity of the event while maintaining a positive experience for everyone involved.
