Lowestoft is set to play a key role in major offshore wind developments following a new agreement at the town’s port.
Associated British Ports has signed a deal with RWE and Clarksons Port Services which will see the Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF) used as a construction support base for the Vanguard East and West wind farm projects.
As part of the plans, a new 2,000 square metre warehouse will be built and operated at the port, supporting increased activity in the area.
RWE has also committed to basing multiple vessels in Lowestoft over several years, signalling long-term investment in the town.
The development is expected to bring a range of benefits to the local area, including new jobs, skills and training opportunities, and increased involvement for local businesses in the supply chain.
The Vanguard projects are designed to generate enough renewable energy to power around three million UK homes once complete.
The agreement further strengthens Lowestoft’s position as a hub for offshore energy and maritime activity, with ongoing investment supporting the town’s economic future.
