Suffolk Police are reminding residents across towns including Lowestoft, Beccles, and Leiston to enjoy Hallowe’en responsibly and to be mindful of those who prefer not to take part.
Officers say they want everyone to have fun, but they’re asking trick-or-treaters to respect people’s wishes — especially older or vulnerable neighbours who may find unexpected knocks on the door distressing.
Extra police patrols will be taking place over the Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night period. The aim is to deter antisocial behaviour and ensure communities can enjoy the festivities safely. Police are also working with local councils, schools, and businesses to promote safety messages and support community events.
To help make things easier for residents, Suffolk Police have produced two downloadable posters for homes and businesses. One lets people know they’re happy to welcome trick-or-treaters, while the other politely asks to be left undisturbed. Both are available on the Suffolk Police website.
A police spokesperson said the campaign is about encouraging respect and making sure everyone — whether celebrating or not — feels safe in their community.
Anyone with concerns about antisocial behaviour or unsafe activity during the celebrations is encouraged to report it using the non-emergency number 101, or 999 in an emergency.
