Homes and businesses in Oulton Broad were affected by a power cut after an underground cable fault caused disruption on Bridge Road.
The issue led to electricity supplies failing late in the evening, with residents reporting flickering lights before power was lost. Steve Thornton, from the Lady of the Lake, said the disruption began at around 10pm.
The outage followed a dramatic short circuit at an existing underground repair site that UK Power Networks had been working on during the previous week. Witnesses reported sparks and smoke coming from the location as the fault occurred, prompting concern among those nearby.
Electricity supplies to properties along Bridge Road were interrupted as engineers dealt with the problem. UK Power Networks attended the scene and carried out emergency repairs to restore service.
Power was gradually returned to affected homes and businesses, with all supplies confirmed to be back on by the early hours of Friday morning.
There have been no reports of injuries, but the incident caused temporary disruption for residents and local businesses in the area. Further checks are expected to ensure the repair is secure and to prevent any repeat issues.
