Bungay Town Council has chosen Councillor Janet Blowers O’Neill as the town’s Mayor for the 2026–27 civic year.
A lifelong resident of Bungay, Councillor Blowers O’Neill was born at All Hallows Hospital in nearby Ditchingham and has served on the town council since 2000, aside from a four-year break.
Before entering local government, she worked in information technology for the Civil Service, specialising in relational databases and secure software.
Following her election, Councillor Blowers O’Neill said she was committed to continuing her long-standing service to the community.
She said: “After my career in the Civil Service, I wanted to give something back, and serving as a councillor in the town where I have lived all my life has allowed me to do that.”
Looking ahead to her year as Mayor, she said she wanted to ensure the council delivers the best value possible for local residents, while also strengthening partnerships across the town.
Improving accessibility is another key aim, helping people of all ages and abilities, including those with prams, to enjoy everything Bungay has to offer.
At the same meeting, Councillor Ben Crickmore was elected as Deputy Mayor.
The appointments mark the start of the new civic year for Bungay Town Council.
