A routine training session for Lowestoft RNLI volunteers became a real-life rescue when they were called to assist a stranded yacht off Pakefield.
The crew of the lifeboat Patsy Knight were taking part in their regular training exercise at sea when HM Coastguard received a report from a yacht that had suffered engine failure.
As the lifeboat was already nearby, the volunteer crew quickly responded and reached the vessel, which was around one nautical mile off Pakefield.
Lowestoft RNLI Coxswain John Fox said the 11-metre British yacht had two people on board who were unable to restart the engine. Without power, the vessel would have struggled to safely enter the harbour.
After assessing the situation, the RNLI crew decided the safest option was to tow the yacht back to Lowestoft. The vessel was brought into the harbour and secured to a mooring in the Trawl Dock shortly before midday.
The RNLI said the incident highlighted the value of regular training, allowing crew members to put their skills into practice during a genuine emergency.
No injuries were reported and both people on board the yacht were brought safely back to shore.
