A community beach clean is being organised in Lowestoft as part of a national campaign to tackle plastic pollution and protect the coastline.
People are being encouraged to take part in the event, which will begin at Links Road Car Park and run for around an hour and a half. Volunteers of all ages can join, with equipment provided on the day. Participants are advised to wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions.
The clean-up forms part of the Surfers Against Sewage “Big Million Mile Spring Clean”, a UK-wide initiative aimed at removing litter from beaches, parks and streets to prevent waste from entering the environment.
The event also marks the launch of Plastic Free Communities Lowestoft, a new local initiative led by the town council. The scheme aims to reduce single-use plastic by working with residents, schools, businesses and community organisations across the area.
Organisers say the clean-up is an opportunity for the community to come together, improve the local environment and help protect marine life from plastic waste.
Residents, families and local groups are all invited to take part.
