Fire crews have extinguished a large fire that broke out on a playing field in Aldeburgh.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was alerted just after midday to reports of flames behind Park Road. Three engines were initially sent — from Ipswich East, Woodbridge and Framlingham — though the incident was later scaled back to two appliances after assessment.
On arrival, firefighters found around 60 metres by 40 metres of fern trees, hedgerow and undergrowth well alight and spreading quickly. Crews used three hose reel jets, two main jets, a thermal imaging camera and small tools to contain the blaze.
By surrounding the fire and damping down the affected area, firefighters were able to prevent significant damage to nearby properties. The incident was brought under control, and a stop message was issued at 1:20pm on Wednesday, confirming no further resources were needed.
