Record-breaking temperatures have been recorded in Beccles and east Suffolk, as the recent spell of very hot weather pushes local readings to new highs.
Local weather observations from Beccles show temperatures reached 30.1C Bank Holiday Monday (25th May) before rising even further to 32C the following day, making it the hottest May day recorded there.
The heat also lingered well beyond the middle of the day, with temperatures still sitting at 25.5C during both the early morning and late evening.
The new figures from Steve Bartholomew show the figures comfortably exceeded previous local May highs, which included 28.5C in 1992, 28.3C in 1969 and 28.1C in 1995.
The heat formed part of a wider pattern across England and Wales, with many locations also breaking May temperature records. While areas around London recorded even higher temperatures, the conditions in east Suffolk were still unusually warm.
Suffolk's coast was less hot and more comfortable thanks to sea breezes.
Thunder and lightning later developed for some Tuesday night, although no measurable rainfall was recorded in Beccles.
The hot weather comes during what is shaping up to be one of the driest springs on local records, with only limited rainfall measured over recent months. Forecasts suggest the less warm conditions may only be temporary, with warm weather expected to continue Friday and into the weekend.
