Suffolk Councils Launch Reorganisation Website

A new website has been launched to help residents across Suffolk understand planned changes to local councils and what they could mean for communities.

The Future Suffolk platform has been created by Suffolk’s six councils as part of work surrounding Local Government Reorganisation.

The website brings together information in one place and aims to explain how proposed changes could affect residents in areas including Lowestoft, Beccles, Leiston and surrounding communities.

The site includes details on proposed new council boundaries, provisional ward names, councillor numbers and a timeline of key milestones. Residents can also submit questions, comments and concerns through the platform.

Plans currently outline replacing existing county, district and borough councils with three new unitary authorities. Proposed names for those councils are Central and East Suffolk, Ipswich and South Suffolk, and West Suffolk, although the names could be reviewed once the new authorities are established.

Elections for the new councils are expected in 2027 before the new structures formally begin operating.

Local Government Reorganisation is part of a wider national programme aimed at simplifying council structures and bringing services under single authorities.
