Suffolk Senior Cup Win for Halesworth

Halesworth Town are celebrating after winning the Suffolk Senior Cup for the first time in the club’s history with victory at Portman Road.

The east Suffolk side beat Mutford and Wrentham 2-0 in the final, with two quick-fire goals early in the second half deciding the match.

Centre-back Curtis Moore opened the scoring with a header from a Lewis Chenery corner before Callum Read doubled the advantage just five minutes later after reacting to a deflected effort.

Mutford and Wrentham pushed for a way back into the game, but Halesworth remained in control and even had a late chance to extend the lead when captain Shaun Whiteman was awarded a penalty, although his effort was saved.

The victory marks another milestone in a memorable period for Halesworth following promotion, an FA Vase run and now county cup success.

Joint manager Carl Chenery described the achievement as a long-awaited moment for the club and praised supporters who travelled to back the team.

For Mutford and Wrentham, it was a fourth county cup final defeat and a first at Portman Road, although manager Ryan Grimmer praised his side’s performance and credited Halesworth on the night.
