    • A network of Warm Rooms is open across east Suffolk to provide a safe, welcoming space for anyone struggling with heating costs during the colder winter months. Locations include everything from community halls and churches to leisure centres and pubs, each providing a warm space, hot drinks and an opportunity to connect with other members of the local community. The network of 30 Warm Rooms can be found across the east Suffolk area - with several venues planning free, independently funded activities, ranging from books and games to film showings, allowing people to not only stay warm but also connect with others in the community, reducing isolation and loneliness. Help and advice will be available on subjects such as reducing energy costs and managing finances, while East Suffolk District Council will also be working with the Rural Coffee Caravan to identify and support Warm Spaces in more rural communities. https://www.eastsuffolk.gov.uk/assets/Community/Ease-the-Squeeze/Network-of-Warm-Rooms.pdf or https://ruralcoffeecaravan.org.uk/

    • Join us at First Light 2024 on 22-23 June 2024 for a shimmering midsummer celebration in the UK’s most easterly town with a packed programme of inspiring performances over the whole festival weekend – from a Balearic breakfast on the beach with DJ Colleen Cosmo Murphy to late-night comedy with Shaparak Khorsandi and the best spoken word with Hollie McNish. First Light Festival is a community gathering that warmly welcomes those from down the road and across the world to celebrate a unique place at a very special time: the first sunrise of midsummer in the UK’s most easterly town. The festival is organised by First Light Festival Community Interest Company (CIC), a not-for-profit organisation based in Lowestoft that aims to shine a spotlight on our incredible part of the world, and the wealth of talent and creativity that exists here. Alongside the festival, we oversee a year-round programme of arts and events that includes the running of East Point Pavilion on Lowestoft’s seafront, and a number of projects across East Suffolk. As of November 2022, we are proud to be an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO). First Light is created for, with and by the community: our Steering Group is made up of 14 local organisations, and guides our work. Each year, hundreds of local volunteers help us bring South Beach alive, and for 2023 we will work with all the schools and colleges in our area on creative projects in the run up to the festival. We work hand in hand with the local authorities to make sure that our impact spreads as widely and as positively as possible.
