    • Tracey Bowler is the founder of Brainwave Independence Group: “In 2004, My son was in a road traffic accident, where he was ejected through the rear windscreen of a car. He was in a coma for four months & spent the best part of a year in hospital due to the extensive injuries that he had sustained. My son is left with a severe brain injury, he is registered blind/severe partial sighted and has epilepsy.” As a charity, the group promotes independent living within our clients’ own home, or in any social environment, supporting them to pursue as full and interesting a life as possible. We do this by utilising a person-centred approach to assist individuals in maximising their own potential, opening gateways’ to improved choices and independence. • Two women from Beccles, skydived for a domestic abuse charity on Sunday 10th September 2023. Jen and Gemma Loades-Hoye are raising money for the Leeway Charity which provides specialist domestic abuse support across Suffolk and Norfolk. Glorious sunshine and clear skies greeted the 25 supporters who took part in the fundraising challenge at Beccles Airfield, helping to raise an amazing £12,500! All money raised from the event will go towards enhancing the NIDAS service (Norfolk Integrated Domestic Abuse Service), which Leeway delivers alongside other local service providers. NIDAS is a countywide service supporting those who are experiencing domestic abuse and are assessed at being high or medium risk of harm, regardless of where they live across the county. Since launching in January 2022, the service has expanded to provide specialist support for LGBTQ+ survivors, older adults, and other groups that may face additional barriers when accessing support. For more information about NIDAS, visit the service’s dedicated website www.nidasnorfolk.co.uk. More details on how you can help donate to the Leeway Charity Skydive can be found on their website.

    • The Rural Coffee Caravan aims to create social spaces in our rural places. Knowing what’s going on in our own communities isn’t always easy. It is especially difficult if access to transport is limited, or the village shop or pub or post office has gone or you live in one of Suffolk’s very scattered parishes. Rural Coffee Caravan exists to help rurally isolated people in the county access services and information to improve their lives, health and wellbeing, and to bring people together, empowering and strengthening rural communities. We work to alleviate loneliness and social isolation by providing occasions that engender conversations, leading to people feeling more a part of their community. The service is free and accessible to everyone and details can be found on their website
