Lowestoft's Sunrise Film Festival returns this week after growing from a grassroots project into Suffolk's largest film festival.
The festival was launched in 2021 with the aim of bringing inspiring cinema and creative opportunities to the coastal town, while giving emerging and underrepresented filmmakers a platform.
Since then, Sunrise has screened more than 600 independent films and welcomed over 5,000 audience members through its festival and year-round activities.
The festival has also developed a community of filmmakers and audiences around its focus on diverse stories and new voices.
For this year's edition, taking place from 20th to 23rd August 2026, organisers received more than 1,100 film submissions from across the UK and internationally.
The number of submissions reflects the festival's growing reputation as a platform for emerging filmmakers.
Sunrise says its aim remains to celebrate diverse stories, support filmmakers who may otherwise struggle to be seen and provide Lowestoft with access to a wide range of independent cinema.
More details about the event tonight at the Marina Theatre, can be found on our Facebook page.
