An east Suffolk football rivalry takes centre stage tonight as Halesworth Town and Mutford & Wrentham meet in the Suffolk Senior Cup final at Portman Road.
For Halesworth, it marks a historic first appearance at the home of Ipswich Town and follows a season that has included promotion to the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North and a run to the latter stages of the FA Vase.
The occasion also carries emotional significance for the club after the loss of chairman Will Kerslake in 2023 and player Toby Chenery earlier this year.
Mutford & Wrentham are also chasing a memorable ending to their own story. Despite previously reaching county cup finals, the club is seeking its first Suffolk Senior Cup success and a first final played at Portman Road.
Manager Ryan Grimmer said the chance to play at Ipswich Town’s ground had created excitement around the club and local community, with sponsors, friends and families all looking to be involved.
Several players from both teams already know each other through local football, adding an extra derby feel to the occasion.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm, with supporters from across east Suffolk expected to make the trip for what promises to be a memorable night.
