Beccles swimmer Will Ellard wins Commonwealth Games gold with record-breaking performance
Beccles para-swimmer Will Ellard has won gold for Team England at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, breaking the Games record twice in the process.
Ellard took victory in the Men's S14 200-metre Freestyle at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
He set a new Commonwealth Games record in the heats, clocking one minute 53 and 52 seconds.
But he went even faster in the final on Saturday (25th July), smashing his own record from earlier in the day with a winning time of one minute 51-point-66.
Ellard finished more than three seconds ahead of his closest competitor to secure the gold medal.
The victory also completes a historic career Grand Slam for the Beccles swimmer in the event. He now simultaneously holds the Paralympic, World, European and Commonwealth titles.
