Work has started on a major £130,000 restoration project at Bungay Butter Cross, one of the town's best-known historic landmarks.
The essential repairs are being carried out on the Grade I listed structure, which was built in 1689 and stands at the centre of Bungay's market place. The project is expected to take around three months to complete.
Bungay Town Trust, which owns and manages the Butter Cross, is overseeing the restoration.
The Trust says the town's long-running Thursday market will continue without disruption while the work takes place, with the repair programme planned to allow traders to operate as normal.
Alongside the restoration, Bungay Town Trust has launched a public appeal, giving residents and supporters the opportunity to contribute towards the cost of the project.
The Trust says the Butter Cross is an important part of Bungay's heritage and hopes the community will help preserve the landmark for future generations.
The restoration represents a significant investment in one of the town centre's most recognisable buildings, with the repairs designed to protect the historic structure for years to come.
