Motorists faced significant delays across East Suffolk after separate incidents in Lowestoft and Blythburgh caused major disruption.
In Lowestoft, there were reports that the town’s harbour bridge became stuck halfway up on Tuesday (16th June), leading to lengthy queues during the evening rush hour. A van was also reported to have hit one of the bridge barriers.
Eyewitnesses told East Suffolk One that as a result, traffic backed up from Oulton Broad to St Peter’s Street, with congestion affecting routes across the town.
The bridge was reopened a few hours later, allowing traffic to begin moving again.
Meanwhile, the A12 at Blythburgh was closed following a collision involving a car and a telegraph pole near the White Hart pub at around 5.15am on Tuesday (16th June).
The impact left cables across the carriageway, forcing the road to close while emergency services and utility crews made the area safe.
Drivers were diverted via Westleton while the incident was dealt with.
Both incidents caused significant disruption for local residents and commuters, with motorists advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
No details about injuries in the Blythburgh collision have been released at the moment.
