The 2025 powerboat racing season at Oulton Broad has been brought to an early end following the death of racer Brett Duncan.

Mr Duncan, 51, died on 24th July when his powerboat collided with a stationary houseboat during a race at Oulton Broad.

The Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club (LOBMBC) suspended events while investigations were carried out and had hoped its annual Battle of Britain meeting on 14th September could still go ahead.

However, the club has now confirmed the season is over.

In a statement it said: “It’s with a very heavy heart we have to formally announce and confirm the L&OBMBC 2025 race season is now over. The club, its directors and management have all worked very hard with the various investigations and authorities to get a return to racing but it’s simply not going to happen this year.”

The club also thanked the Circuit Powerboat Association and sent its thoughts to Mr Duncan’s family.

His funeral will take place today (Saturday 6th September). Family members say his hearse will make a “final lap of the park” at Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad as part of the service.

East Suffolk Council is currently investigating the crash. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch initially launched an inquiry, but said it would not continue as the vessels involved were not engaged in commercial activity.
