There are poets, writers, artists, musicians and actors all living within close proximity of the town. Bungay has that effect on people. The Sole Bay jazz musicians offer free, top-quality jazz every Monday night at The Pavilion in Ditchingham. Artistic Fields puts on sublime lunchtime music concerts in St Mary’s Church most Thursday lunchtimes and if you hit the right night, you will find European folk sessions in the Green Dragon and folk and acoustic sing-arounds in the banqueting hall of the Three Tuns. The Ruritanian Café Orkestra keep the floorboards bouncing in The Old Bank Tearoom the first Thursday of every month. For a town of just over 5,000 souls, it offers a breadth and quality of music well above its station. Into this mix we offer you the third Bungay Folk Festival.
This festival is all about participation. We want you to come and enjoy the ambience, the eclectic and exciting shops, the excellent food and beer. We want you to bring your own instruments and spend time with top quality tutors in workshops and then discover places like Falcon Meadow, The Castle Bailey or Dinky’s Garden where you can play and practice what you’ve learnt. Then you will stroll confidently into a pub and join a vibrant and welcoming session. As part of the vision for this festival we are also putting on a slow and steady tune session, free yoga sessions and a mental health swim in the River Waveney. And, of course, you can attend any of the concerts and performances which are taking place around the town. We have some top-quality acts lined up: Chris Wood, Sam Kelly, Will Pound and Jenn Butterworth, John Ward Trio, Shackleton trio and many more plus a supporting cast of amazing local talent. We hope you enjoy the music, the dancing, the food and beer (other beverages are available) but most of all we hope you want to come back and visit Bungay again soon.
