Suffolk Theatre's Refurbishment Rukus

Workers involved in refurbishing Lowestoft’s Marina Theatre say they are still waiting to be paid months after the project was completed.

The historic seafront venue reopened following a £3 million refurbishment, marking the end of a 17-week programme of works. The Marina Theatre, which is owned by Lowestoft Town Council, welcomed audiences back with a high-profile opening performance.

However, some workers hired for the refurbishment claim they are owed tens of thousands of pounds for work carried out on the project. The contract for the refurbishment was awarded to Derby-based firm The Input Group, with several sub-contractors involved in the work.

Lowestoft Town Council has said that all payment matters remain between The Input Group and its sub-contractors, adding that the council is not directly involved in those arrangements. The Input Group has not responded to requests for comment.

The refurbishment project was delivered in partnership with the Marina Theatre Trust and East Suffolk Council, with funding provided through the UK Government’s Towns Fund. The work aimed to modernise the 147-year-old building while preserving its historic character.

Despite the dispute, the theatre has been operating since reopening and continues to host performances and events.

The situation has raised concerns among some workers involved in the project, while discussions around outstanding payments are ongoing.
