A 28-year-old man has been jailed for a series of offences committed against a woman in Suffolk.
Bradley Green, formerly of Cucumber Lane in Weston near Beccles, was sentenced to 27 months in prison at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 3rd December. He had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, controlling or coercive behaviour and harassment causing fear of violence.
The offences all related to one woman.
The court heard that Green subjected the victim to obsessive and controlling behaviour, including using tracking apps to monitor her location and challenging her whenever the app was turned off or when she was somewhere he did not expect. He also demanded she delete male contacts from social media and regularly checked her phone.
Green admitted being violent towards her, including spitting at her, strangling her and causing actual bodily harm. He also damaged her property and repeatedly called and messaged her, at times threatening to harm himself unless she responded.
In a personal statement read in court, the victim described how difficult it was to leave the relationship, saying: “By the time that trust is broken and you’re ready to leave, it’s not safe to… by the time I wanted out, I couldn’t.”
Investigating Officer Detective Constable Samuel Jones said more than 140,000 messages were reviewed as part of the case, creating a detailed picture of the relationship. He praised the victim’s courage in coming forward.
Green was also made subject to a restraining order.
Police are urging anyone experiencing abuse to seek help. Support is available through police, the Suffolk Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0800 977 5690, and a range of organisations listed on the Suffolk Constabulary website.
