Drivers using the A12 near Saxmundham junction are being advised of updated traffic management measures as work continues on the construction of a new roundabout. The scheme is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at what has long been considered a high-risk junction.
Following reported incidents at the site, a full review was carried out with Suffolk County Council Highways, Suffolk Constabulary and contractor Breheny. As a precaution, lower-height barriers have now been installed to improve visibility for drivers. Vehicle Activated Speed Signs are also due to be added at key approaches.
Three-way traffic lights will be in operation during the evening rush hour and will remain in place overnight. These will be removed at 6am each morning. Over the weekend, further adjustments will be made, including replacing some barriers with cones and reviewing the position of road signs to help visibility.
The construction area is clearly marked, and the project is being overseen in partnership with Suffolk County Council, National Highways, East Suffolk Council and Suffolk Constabulary. Officials say all measures comply with highway regulations and are regularly reviewed to ensure the site remains safe, well-managed and environmentally compliant.
The organisations involved say safety continues to be the top priority, and traffic management will be monitored daily as the roundabout works progress. Road users are being thanked for their patience while the improvements are delivered.
