New Men’s Shed Opens in Carlton Colville

A new Men’s Shed has been launched in Carlton Colville to help local men connect, share skills, and support each other’s wellbeing.

The group was established with £2,402 in funding from East Suffolk councillors Myles Scrancher and Letitia Smith through their Enabling Communities Budgets. The funding covered the cost of setting up the shed, purchasing tools and materials, and supporting running costs for the first six months.

At the first meeting, 35 men signed up to join the Carlton Colville Men’s Shed, which now meets twice a month at the 2nd Carlton Colville Scout Group’s hall on Lowestoft Road.

Councillor Scrancher said he was delighted to support the project: “In modern times where there aren’t many places for men to go, Men’s Sheds have a huge role in improving wellbeing and reducing loneliness.”

Councillor Smith added: “We’re thrilled to see such strong support locally. We hope members will soon be able to use their skills to help with community projects like gardening, repairs, or painting — while enjoying great company and conversation.”

The Rural Coffee Caravan will also attend sessions to offer refreshments and access to health and wellbeing information.

The Men’s Shed movement encourages social connection and practical creativity, helping to prevent isolation by providing spaces for people to work together on shared projects.

The Carlton Colville group meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 2pm to 4.30pm at the Old Church Hall. Anyone over 18 is welcome to join.
