Lowestoft is set to celebrate its maritime heritage with the launch of a new look festival on the South Pier.

TheLowestoft Maritime Festival will take place on 29th August, bringing together history, entertainment and fundraising in a one-day event.

The festival aims to raise money to help preserve three of the town’s historic vessels – Lydia Eve, Mincarlo and Excelsior. Organisers say these boats are an important part of Lowestoft’s identity and efforts are ongoing to secure their future.

Visitors will have the chance to step onboard the vessels and learn more about their history from volunteers involved in their restoration.

The event will also feature live music, including sea shanties, alongside family activities, nautical-themed stalls and food and drink from local vendors.

Boat trips will be available from the South Pier, while the RNLI will also be involved, offering opportunities to learn more about lifeboat work in the town.

Organisers say the festival is about more than entertainment, aiming to bring the community together while supporting the preservation of Lowestoft’s maritime heritage.

Funds raised will go towards maintaining the vessels through local charities and supporting ongoing restoration work.
