A busy route near Bungay was closed for several hours after a cyclist died in a collision involving a lorry.
Emergency services were called to the A144 at Ilketshall St John, near Bungay at 5.18 Friday morning (6th February), following reports of a serious road traffic collision. Police and the ambulance service attended the scene, but the cyclist — a man aged in his 50s — was pronounced dead at the roadside.
The A144 was shut in both directions while emergency crews worked and specialist police investigations were carried out. The closure caused disruption for drivers travelling between Bungay and surrounding villages, with the road not fully reopening until mid-afternoon.
Police have confirmed the collision involved a lorry and a bicycle. Officers from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash-cam footage or other relevant information, is being urged to contact police. Information can be passed on via the Suffolk Police website, by emailing the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, or by calling 101, quoting reference number 37/7316/26. In an emergency, people should always call 999.
Support and advice for those affected by road traffic collisions is also available through Suffolk Police.
