A man has been arrested after a van crashed into several properties in Kessingland, causing damage and forcing residents to leave their homes.
Police were called to High Street shortly after 11.30pm following reports that a van had come off the road, hitting a lamp post and multiple buildings.
Emergency services including police, the East of England Ambulance Service and Suffolk Fire and Rescue attended the scene. Officers say five properties were damaged in the collision.
Residents were evacuated after a gas leak was caused as a result of the crash.
A teenage boy who lives in one of the affected properties suffered minor injuries and was assessed at the scene by paramedics.
Members of the public initially reported that the occupants of the van had left the scene. Following enquiries, officers located the driver a short distance away.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop or report an accident. He was taken to hospital for assessment before being transported to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information to contact them quoting CAD 386 of 11th March.
