Historic Suffolk Based Parravani’s Closes After 125 years

One of East Anglia’s oldest and most cherished ice cream producers has ceased trading.

Parravani’s Ice Cream, based on George Westwood Way in Beccles, has gone into insolvency, marking the end of more than 125 years in business.

A notice placed at the company’s premises read:

'It is with great sadness that we are now permanently closed for business.

We would like to thank all our customers for their loyalty over the years.'

The much-loved, family-run firm was founded in 1898, renowned for its handmade Italian ice cream and sorbet made using traditional family recipes. Generations across Suffolk and Norfolk have enjoyed its distinctive flavours at seaside resorts, village shops and local cafés.

News of the closure has prompted sadness across the community, with many describing it as “the end of an era” for a brand woven into East Anglia’s summertime traditions.

Parravani’s has long been celebrated not only for its ice cream but for its deep roots in the region’s food heritage — from serving local fairs and events to stocking farm shops and independent stores.

The company’s closure brings down the curtain on a business that has been part of life in Beccles and beyond for more than a century.
