Four Arrested in Saxmundham 'Day of Action'

Four people have been arrested as part of a multi agency day of action in Saxmundham.

Over 600 grams of suspected Class B drugs and eight weapons were seized, and four people were arrested during a multi-agency day of action in Saxmundham.

The operation took place on Friday 14 February with the aim of clamping down on illegal working and promoting crime prevention.

This was intelligence-led proactivity with targeted patrols and business visits in Saxmundham.

The Halesworth Community Policing Team were assisted by the Intelligence Development Team and the Halesworth Response Investigation Team. In addition, partner agencies were also present for the day, which included East Suffolk Council and Home Office Immigration Enforcement.

Four people were arrested as follows:

• Three on suspicion of arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation. All three men have now been bailed until the 9 May 2025.

• One on suspicion of supplying class B drugs and possession offensive weapon in private. The male has since been bailed until 14 April 2025.

One female was safeguarded by Home Office Immigration officers. Two local businesses were also served with Civil Penalty Notices for offences identified on the day.

Inspector Liz Casey said: “This was a really positive day of action for all the agencies involved, with some serious offences detected and a significant amount of drugs and weapons taken off of our streets. All of these offences contribute to harm within the local community, and they must be taken seriously. I’d like to pass on my thanks to all the other agencies involved – a great bit of partnership working as part of our ongoing effort to keep residents safe.”

Nicole Rickard, Head of Communities and Leisure from East Suffolk Council, said: “Multiple members of our teams attended the day, including representatives from our Communities, Environmental Protection, Private Sector Housing, Licencing, Building control, Fraud and Food Safety departments. Following a number of visits to businesses, evidence and information was taken away by teams to inform further investigations and potential enforcement action."
