A man has died following a serious collision on the A12 in Saxmundham.
Emergency services were called just before 2pm yesterday (Thursday 4th December) to reports of a crash involving a grey Nissan Almera and a red Mazda at the junction with the B1119 Rendham Road.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the driver of the Nissan Almera — a man in his 80s and the sole occupant — was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service also attended, with crews working to free two passengers who were trapped inside the Mazda. They, along with the car’s driver, were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving after failing a roadside drug test. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.
The A12 was closed in both directions while collision investigation work continued.
Officers from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses, including anyone with dashcam footage from around the time of the incident.
