East Suffolk Marks Remembrance Sunday

Beccles on parade for Remembrance Sunday 2025

Hundreds of people gathered at Royal Plain in Lowestoft for a special Remembrance ceremony honouring those who served and sacrificed in conflict.

Large crowds lined the seafront as wreaths were laid and local groups, veterans, and families took part in the service.

Similar ceremonies were held across east Suffolk, including in Halesworth, Leiston, Bungay and Southwold, where residents gathered at war memorials to pay their respects.

In the afternoon, Beccles held its service at St Mary’s Road, while Saxmundham hosted a Civic Remembrance Service bringing together local organisations and community leaders.

Across the area, poppy displays, standards, and moments of reflection marked the occasion, with a strong turnout reported in every town.

Police and local stewards were on hand to help manage traffic and ensure smooth proceedings, as residents paused to reflect on the contribution of the armed forces past and present.

Armistice Day follows next, with two minutes’ silence to be observed at eleven o’clock across Suffolk on Tuesday, including schools, workplaces, and public spaces.

Local councils and veterans’ groups have thanked everyone who attended the services, saying the support shows the community’s enduring respect for those who served.
