The upcoming closure of Coopers Home and Garden stores across east Suffolk has sparked concern in Halesworth, where the town’s Post Office operates within the Coopers premises.
Coopers has confirmed that its branches in Halesworth, Leiston, Bungay and Beccles will close at 3pm on Saturday (18th October), marking the end of an era for the local high streets.
In Halesworth, residents have voiced worries online about how the closure might affect postal services, with some saying they rely on the Post Office for business mail and everyday banking.
At present, the Post Office has not issued any public statement confirming whether its branch in Halesworth will close, relocate or continue to operate. Post Office Ltd typically holds a consultation before any permanent or temporary closure, but no such notice has yet appeared on its website.
Local residents say that the loss of both Coopers and the Post Office would leave “a lot of unhappy people” in Halesworth.
Meanwhile, the closures come as Lowestoft’s NatWest branch on London Road North shut its doors for the final time earlier this week — another change for east Suffolk’s high streets.
