Plans have been outlined for a new children’s home to be located on the former high school site in Saxmundham.
Details of the proposal have been released by Suffolk County Council, prompting a response from Saxmundham Town Council. Town councillors say they are aware of the announcement and recognise the importance of providing appropriate, high-quality care for children with complex needs.
The town council has confirmed that the proposed children’s home is separate from any potential special educational needs and disabilities provision that may also be considered for the site. Discussions around SEND education are continuing directly between Suffolk County Council and the Department for Education.
As the proposal is a county-level matter, Saxmundham Town Council says it has noted the information but has not made a formal comment at this stage. Councillors have stressed that they will continue to stay informed and will update the community as more details become available.
The former high school site has been the subject of ongoing interest, with residents keen to understand how it may be used in the future and what impact development could have on the town.
A link to the county council’s press release has been shared so residents can read the full details of the proposal. Further information is expected as the plans progress and discussions continue.
