A12 Shut near Saxmundham this Weekend

Drivers in east Suffolk are being advised to plan ahead as a section of the A12 near Saxmundham is set to close for improvement works linked to the Sizewell C nuclear power station.

The closure affects a short stretch of the A12 south of the A1094 Friday Street junction. The road will be shut overnight across a weekend from 8 o'clock Friday evening - with access reopening at 5 o'clock on the Monday morning.

Sizewell C says the work includes drainage improvements, kerb installation and resurfacing, all needed to support the construction of a new roundabout in the area.

An official diversion route will be in place, directing motorists onto major A-roads via the A146, A143 and A14. Drivers are being asked to follow the signed route to help prevent congestion on smaller rural roads. However, the diversion is expected to add a significant number of extra miles to some journeys.

In addition to the full closure, further work is taking place on the northbound carriageway of the A12 just north of the Friday Street junction. These works are being carried out overnight over a three-week period, with lanes affected between evening and early morning hours.

Sizewell C has apologised for any disruption caused by the temporary closure and says the work is necessary to support ongoing construction activity in the area.
