Two Die in Three Days on East Suffolk's Roads

Two men have died in separate road collisions in the Bungay and Beccles area within the space of just a few days.

Emergency services were first called to the A144 at Ilketshall St John, near Bungay, following reports of a collision involving a lorry and a bicycle. Police were alerted by the ambulance service at 5.18am on Friday (6th February) and attended alongside paramedics.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The A144 was closed for several hours while emergency services responded and police carried out enquiries, before fully reopening later in the afternoon.

A second fatal collision happened on the B1062 at Barsham. Police were called shortly before 1.30am on Sunday (8th February) after reports that a black Land Rover Freelander had left the road and struck a tree.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended, but the driver — a man aged in his 30s — was declared deceased at the scene.

The B1062 was closed while collision investigation work was completed and the vehicle recovered. The road reopened later that afternoon.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the Barsham collision and are asking motorists who were travelling in the area at the time, particularly anyone with dash-cam footage, to review any recordings which may assist the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Unit, quoting reference 37/7627/26, via the Suffolk Police website.
