Police are appealing for witnesses following an arson incident at Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad, where two fires were reported in one evening.
The first fire occurred in a baby changing station at around 8.30pm, damaging equipment within the facility. Later that evening, four young females were seen setting fire to rubbish elsewhere in the park. Both fires were safely extinguished by on-site security staff and no injuries were reported.
In response, police issued a dispersal order under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. The order, in effect from 9.30pm on Friday 1st to 9.30pm on Sunday 3rd August, gave officers powers to exclude individuals from the area for up to 48 hours. Two people were dispersed under the order.
Acting Inspector Richard Bemment said police are aware of ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour in the park. Officers are working closely with park security and Oulton Broad Parish Council, with an increase in high-visibility patrols planned.
“Anti-social behaviour has a significant impact on the community, businesses and tourism,” he said. “Tackling this unacceptable behaviour remains a local policing priority.”
