A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a three-vehicle collision on Lowestoft’s Harbour Bridge.
Police were called to the scene at 4.20pm o Wednesday (11th February) after reports of a crash involving a black Audi, a green Vauxhall Insignia and a black VW Passat. Emergency services attended, including the East of England Ambulance Service.
The driver of the Audi, a 57-year-old man, was arrested at the scene after failing a roadside breath test. He sustained a number of injuries, including several fractures, and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains.
No other injuries were reported.
The bridge was closed while collision investigation work was carried out and the vehicles were recovered. The route fully reopened shortly after 8.30pm, following several hours of disruption on one of the town’s main crossings.
Police are appealing for witnesses and are asking motorists who were driving in the area at the time, particularly anyone with dashcam footage, to review recordings that may assist enquiries.
