Rail operator Greater Anglia is investing £350,000 in community projects across its network, with several projects to benefit Suffolk stations.
The money comes from the company’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund, which supports projects that enhance stations, promote rail travel, and deliver wider community benefits. Grants of up to £50,000 were awarded this year.
In Lowestoft, £47,000 has been awarded to improve facilities at the station, including new toilets and upgrades to the waiting area.
At Oulton Broad South, £20,000 will provide new cycle parking and a shelter, reflecting growing demand from residents and new housing developments nearby.
Other projects include £6,500 for waiting room improvements at Saxmundham station, alongside a schools project - plus £5,100 for new signage at Saxmundham station and car park, giving clearer information on parking, onward travel and accessibility. Also £3,000 for Saxmundham Museum to promote visits by rail users.
Meanwhile, there's £10,113 for Halesworth Museum, based at the station, to upgrade windows, doors and signage.
Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, Martin Beable, said the scheme is designed to strengthen links between rail services and the communities they serve, adding: “We are always looking to enhance the role of the railway in support of the community it serves.”
The fund also supports projects in Norfolk, Essex, and Cambridgeshire, ranging from biodiversity initiatives to heritage schemes and improved travel connections.
The investment follows a successful first year of the fund, with last year’s projects already making a difference across the region.
