A familiar sight on Beccles’ high street has closed after nearly four decades of serving the local community.
Butcher Bob Knights has shut the doors of his shop on Market Street for the final time after deciding to retire. The business had traded in the town for close to 40 years, becoming a long-established part of everyday life for many residents.
Over the years, the shop built up a regular customer base, with generations of local families using the business as their go-to town centre butcher. Its closure marks the end of a long period of independent trading in one of Beccles’ busiest streets.
Mr Knights’ decision to retire brings to a close nearly four decades of service on Market Street, where the shop had remained a consistent presence despite wider changes to the high street.
For local shoppers, the closure represents the loss of another long-standing independent retailer in the town centre.
No further details have been released about future plans for the premises.
The retirement follows years of trading in the heart of Beccles, with the shop recognised by many residents as a familiar and established part of the town’s retail community.
