Drivers travelling near Saxmundham are being warned to expect significant disruption as part of ongoing roadworks linked to the Sizewell C project.
A full closure of the A12 and A1094 junction at Friday Street is planned to allow further construction of a new roundabout. The roundabout will form part of a wider scheme, including a 6.5km link road designed to take Sizewell-bound traffic away from the A12.
The closure will be in place from 8pm on Friday until 5am on Monday, covering the entire weekend.
During this time, an official diversion of nearly 50 miles will be in operation. The route follows the A12, A14, A140 and A143 and is expected to add around an hour to journey times.
The extended diversion is designed to accommodate all vehicles, including larger traffic, by keeping routes on major A roads rather than smaller local roads.
The works are part of ongoing improvements in the area, which have already seen several closures and temporary traffic lights in recent months.
Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys while the closure is in place.
Meanwhile, trains on the East Suffolk Line will only run between Lowestoft and Halesworth - with replacement buses between Halesworth and Ipswich this weekend
