    A community-run free repair service

A group of local volunteers have launched a free repair service for domestic items such as small electricals, toys, clothing and knitwear, computers, glueing jobs and much more. The Repair Café network is active all over the world and in July it begins in Lowestoft. By giving household items a new lease of life, Repair Cafés help families avoid the cost of purchasing a replacement as well as helping to reduce waste. A win both for the environment and the family budget.

The project, which has received initial funding from East Suffolk Council, is being led by Ruth Eaton, Kate Stott and Margo Upstone, a group of friends who are concerned about environmental issues and who recognise that many people are finding it hard to manage financially.

Margo said “In these straightened times, we believe that people will benefit financially from having their belongings repaired. Everyone who helps out at the Repair Café is a volunteer and the free service will rely on donations from happy clients.”

Refreshments will be available whilst clients wait for their repairs to be completed. The Repair Café will start on July 10th at Pakefield Church Community Hall from 2-5pm and then every second Thursday of the month.
