Free Open Day at Blythburgh Station

    Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway is holding an open day Saturday July 13th 2024: 10.30am to 4.00pm

    Free entry to site, free tea, coffee and cake.

    A demonstration goods train will be 'hauled through the power of the sun' by the 88-year-old battery-electric locomotive which is now charged by solar panels.

    For the first time - shunting demonstration - "how the railway moved the goods".

    Re-instated main line track, platform, and goods sidings. Narrow gauge goods wagons. Award-winning restored original Goods Shed. Heritage railway display, refreshments, railway book sale, and films in the Village Hall. Enlarged live steam model railway. Display of found artefacts.

    Location: the station is on the northern edge of Blythburgh village. It is signposted off the A12. The 99A bus from Halesworth and Southwold stops about 100 yards away (NB - no service on Sundays).

    Car parking is in Holy Trinity Church car park and the adjacent field. Blue badge disabled parking ONLY onsite.

    The next Open Day and Model Railway Show at the station is on Sunday September 8th 2024, 10.30am to 4.00pm
