The Fisher Theatre in Bungay is celebrating its 20th anniversary this week, marking two decades since the historic Suffolk building was rescued and reopened as a theatre.
The building first opened in 1828, as one of a circuit of theatres established across East Anglia by theatre entrepreneur David Fisher. Over the years it had a number of different uses, including as a corn hall, cinema and textile warehouse, before its revival.
Bungay Arts and Theatre Society was formed in 1995 with the aim of creating an arts centre for the town. After the building was bought for the town in 2001 and a major fundraising and restoration effort, the Fisher reopened its doors on September 29th 2006.
To mark the anniversary, a new piece of artwork has been unveiled for the theatre. The design, created specifically for the Fisher, is set to be used as a logo and in other forms as the theatre begins its next chapter.
The Fisher is continuing its anniversary celebrations with events during this week, and included a special performance of The Piano On Stage with Will Fergusson on Tuesday.
