Lowestoft Theatre Launches Survival Appeal

On-going social-distancing restrictions because of the Covid-19 pandemic, have led to Lowestoft’s Marina Theatre having to fight for its life - with the launch of a Survival Appeal.

Since mid-March, the theatre has lost virtually all of its income from ticket sales, the café and bar, as well as community participation programmes.

With 325 shows being cancelled so far this year - and a loss of income of over £421,000, the theatre says the next few months will be crucial for their survival.

Marina Theatre Chief Executive, Emma Butler-Smith has told East Suffolk One, that the theatre has ‘been at the heart of Lowestoft for over 100 years’ - and is asking for help ‘so it can be there for people in the future.’

The theatre needs to find £100,000 in the coming weeks and is in talks with Lowestoft Town, East Suffolk and Suffolk County Councils, which remain supportive.
